WHAT WE LEARN WE PASS ON

An old stereotype would have it that those who aren't good enough at what they do, they teach. And that good designers aren't good at passing on their skills. Yet many of my design teachers have also been accomplished design pros. By the same token, designers who never worked as professional educators have also taught me invaluable design skills and insights.

What came out from both in equal measures is my broad appreciation of context, my grasp of instinctive human responses to visual content, the processes by which design takes form, and how design components link up into a meaningful, effective and engaging visual storytelling.

A great mentor of mine once said that design is a process of bitter-sweet magic. And that the only time when magic is of any value is when it's shared. And passed on.

It makes me smile whenever I think of it.
